My journey into interpreting music with paint began in 2012 with a commission by Duke University Chapel to interpret 17th century composer Buxtehude's seven-cantata Membra Jesu Nostri. From there I have interpreted Bach, Grieg and Arvo Pårt's work, among others. I noticed finally that I see color, movement and texture when listening to certain pieces of music. As I moved from 30 years in representational watercolor to abstract expressionist acrylics, I finally found a way to express what I see when moved by music. Click on each painting to access the music that inspired it.
