Cropping of 40x30" Acrylic on Gessobord with 2" Birch Sides Today I am working on "tightening up" elements of design on the paintings I will include in my upcoming exhibit "Enigmata" at The Grand Center for the Arts in New Ulm, running September 19-Oct. 31. This is a cropped piece from a painting that has been hanging in my living room where I can stare at it often. It occurred to me that perhaps it is too busy with movement and color, something I tend to do in paintings. What I need to remember, in life and in painting, is that very often less is more. So I am working with that concept today as I march from painting to painting. It is an interesting feeling as the show approaches. I always feel very vulnerable, and somewhat exposed. But this is the nature of being an artist and trying to make a living at it. We are often very introverted people, who live mostly alone creating our art. Yet, it is important for people to experience art, to think and to feel. And so we share our innards, so to speak. Eventually I will put together the pieces for this show and have them on my website.
