Acrylic on Archival Gessobord with 3/4" BIrch Sides, 12x12", Ready to hang!

Today I played with juxtaposing sources of light, using wet-in-wet techniques as the underpainting and palette knife application on top of it. I am intrigued to play with the use of light in the midst of darkness, in this case light coming from two sources who speak to each other,  in balance. The blue may look almost purplish on your computer but is a true navy blue, though it is called Payne's Gray. I guess Payne was just kidding. I always wonder, who comes up with the names of these pigments? Do people sit in a room, painted in beige, thinking up innovative names for pigments? I think this could be a fairly fun job, especially if you were in a room with some comedians. I just saw a video on the use of Drunk Tank Pink on prisoners, named for the color in, you guessed it, a detox cell. A certain prison found that if they put a violent prisoner in a room painted in this particular pink for 10-15 minutes....they became less violent. I am thinking they probably did whatever was required...just to get out of a room painted entirely in pink. A pepto-bismol pink might send me over the edge. The truth is...color does affect us. Certain colors calm, some agitate, some are passionate, some neutral. In today's painting, reddish brown, teal and a touch of moss green bring the contrasting warms,
and a sense of life and hope.
