Today's painting is a lesson in listening. I painted this for the May 4th Painting-A-Day. It kept talking to me, like it wasn't finished. So back to the proverbial "painting board" I went. I studied it for a while, "listening" for what additional color might be needed and I ended up adding a cool blue under the sweep of sky that is a teal color. The cool blue is a nice contrast to the dominant warm colors used in the overall painting. I added a transparent wash of the same on the left side of the teal that goes downward on the bottom half of the painting.
Listen to your gut. That is what I have told my kids when they were going to be in dicey situations...if it doesn't feel right, listen to that inner voice. It is mostly right. We have senses we aren't really aware of. Of course, they appreciated every word of advice I gave them. Right, kids? I regret it not. So, here's to listening to your gut instinct! It's there for a reason, eh?
