Today a close-up of Ad Pedes (To the Feet), the second of seven paintings. I wanted you to see what I see, here in my studio (other than the chaos and general maelstrom - a situation or state of confused movement or violent turmoil). Yup. That about covers it. Let's just say I have to have a major cleanup between paintings. Who has time to keep things in order when a certain color is calling your name. Evidently, not me! I was actually made aware of my feet today...as I am barefoot and all of a sudden I noticed how good it felt to feel the canvas tarp-covered carpet under my feet. It reminded me of when I was young and went barefoot all summer. I loved the feel of grass under my feet. At bedtime, my mom would come in to say good night, look at my feet and say, "Your feet are just black!" I was reading a book, of course, and she would come in with a wash rag and wash my feet. What a mom! Now...I just have paint on my feet. We'll see if my husband washes them for me tonight! Back to Ad Pedes...here you can see the different textures. Some are created by the paint itself, the brushstrokes, and some created by manipulation. I always have contrast in the back of my mind as I create. Dark vs. light, warm vs. cool, smooth vs. textured. Contrast moves your eyes around the painting. It helps to create interest in certain areas over other areas of less interest. It helps to tell the story.
