A work in progress... Long time...no see, right? It all began with the arrival of our latest graduate and last kid in college back at the hacienda in early June. She helped me grind through closets, pantries and cupboards, purging with smaller living in mind. Bless her! Then we painted the dining room walls, two layers of primer and two layers of paint. Seemed like a small room, but ended in hours and hours of work. I had just cleaned up the newly painted room, ridding it of paint cloths and rearranging the dishes back into the hutch when the torrential rains hit Minnesota. Day 1, a bit of flooding in the basement. We rented a wet vac and dried things out, feeling lucky and accomplished. Then night two of crazy heavy rains. By 9am we had 1 inch of rain covering our entire basement. We have a live-in basement with a lot of carpet. Needless to say it was exhausting battling the water and rescuing my art stuff, furniture and books from the water. Many, many trips up and down those stairs. Then ripping out the carpet. I had a sudden empathy for people in natural disasters...and this wasn't even close to what some people must hurdle. So long story, short. I haven't been able to paint for almost a month. Today I dove into a previous painting that keeps calling for my attention. I am applying the layering of texture as well as paint. We'll see where this takes me. The sorting and re-organizing of basement stuff will have to wait a few hours...
