Acrylic on Canvas, 48" x 72", (a work in progress...) For days I've been walking by it, sometimes ignoring it, sometimes struck by its invitation. Today I took this 48" x 72" canvas into the studio and out of its wrappings and positioned it on my easel. I've never really felt "painter's block" when looking at a white expanse of canvas or board. I get a sense of excitement as I stare at it, starting to imagine what colors it will embrace. As I clean up my work station of paints, water, gel mediums and brushes, I leave my mind open to suggestion. When I rearrange pigments, moving from liquid to tube, I see a beginning color in the mix. All I need is one, one idea to get started. It's like rolling a ball up over the edge of a hill and giving it a bit of a nudge. Everything else builds from that first decision, for good or ill. I will be working on this for quite a while, I expect. Stay tuned.
