Acrylic on Archival Gessobord with 3/4" Birch Sides, 12x12", Ready to hang!

My painting today is a reaction to the color of the food at my hometown's annual festival. I just spent the weekend at Nordic Fest (affectionately known as Nordic Mess) in my hometown, Decorah, IA. If you aren't familiar, it is a street festival with all things Scandinavian....including food. Most of the food traditions kept by my Nordic ancestors and passed down were in the blonde to white range. Pastries, cookies, lefse, white fish. Butter, butter, cream and butter. The need for color comes out in their folk art. My hometown is also incredibly beautiful....natural beauty in the bluffs surrounding the meandering Upper Iowa River (originally the Oneota River). While parched in the search for color on my plate, there was a deluge of color in the greens, blues and browns of Decorah and the surrounding farmlands as we made our way home. This painting is a tribute to being surrounded by natural beauty, forests and fields.
