Back to my commission with the Duke Chapel Choir Concert on April 21st. Here's my first painting...a progression from the first layers. The second picture is a close up of the 3 transparent primary colors I use as an underpainting. I am starting with the fourth of the seven paintings called Ad Latus (to the sides) and am several layers in. It is like a puzzle you have to figure out and there are no answers in the back of the book! It is an exciting challenge. It is a little hard for you to see what is happening, but this painting has to do with the wound in the the side of Jesus during the crucifixion. You can read the lyrics at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Membra_Jesu_Nostri. The blue rectangle in the upper left quadrant is taped off with painter's tape to save the white surface. You will see my plans for that at the very end. Stay tuned...
