Acrylic on Gallery Stretched Canvas, 12 x 12 x 1-3/8"; Ready to hang!

Back in the studio today, preparing a painting for my Pinot & Paint class Friday night. We will be learning about layering colors and creating contrasts to guide your eye. Accent colors, like that special pillow in your living room, make a painting pop and adds some excitement. Speaking of excitement, I had a disaster yesterday in the studio. I had the large jar of white gesso  upside down, banging it against the edge of the table to loosen a stuck lid. Well, it was stuck, but hadn't been screwed in tight and the lid fell off dumping great quantities of white paint on the edge of the table and down onto my floor canvas, and of course, some of the carpet. Evidently, as I bent down to get it off the carpet first, I trailed the top of my head in the paint falling off the edge of the table. I didn't discover my new hair color until later. The hair stylist was still picking pieces of acrylic out of my hair today. Ahhh, the life of an artist. Feels good to be back!

Acrylic on Gallery Stretched Canvas, 12 x 12", Ready to hang!

Today's painting is heavy on line as a motif, similar to Monday's post. This time I started with primary colors red, yellow and blue, which when layered transparently, create the secondary colors of orange, green and violet.  The last two stages were with the addition of black and white. So if you are short on money but would like to start painting, all you really need for paint is red, yellow blue, black and white. You can create many varieties of color from those five pigments. It is fun to challenge yourself to using as many varieties of line as you can think of. Of course, composition and visual balance are always important to make the painting work. I'll tell you in a few days if I think I've accomplished that with this one. If not, you will see some changes. That goes for Monday's painting as well! Enjoy the day, and notice the color out there!

Acrylic on 12x12" Gallery Stretched Canvas, 1-3/8" Cradle, Ready to hang!

Today's painting began as a demo for my Pinot & Paint class. Our theme was LINE...and there are an infinite variety of ways to render line from thick/thin to broken/continuous. Lines can be as expressive as color, show movement and lead the eye in and out and around the painting. Always a challenge, but a fun one, at that!
