Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 12x12". Ready to hang!
Their reality is totally unlike my situation. My problem is that I have been working diligently to get rid of things, to have less. To simplify. To shed the burden of over-accumulation. I do this all with an innate sense of security. Whenever I complain about the work and exhaustion of moving, I take a breath and say, "first-world problem." The contrast between the idyllic life I lead in middle-America and the anguish, worry and loss of refugees is remarkable and disturbing. What can we do? I often feel like being an artist is such a luxury, and I ask, what purpose does it serve when others suffer so? My hope is that it points out the best things of this world - beauty, hope and the fortitude and compassion of the human spirit. Perhaps it makes us think about our place in the universe and what we might do to make it better for all. Art can be disturbing, questioning, comforting and challenging. It is a universal language that connects us all. Today...a bit of beauty.
