April 1, '13 , Acrylic on Gessobord (3/4" birch sides) 12" x 12" Ready-to-Hang
I had fun today. While I painted this painting, I used the time to think about the last painting I am doing for the Buxtehude project this week. Some of the techniques used today, will help me with this last painting. I layered gold, then blue, then red. I used the end of my paintbrush this time to scratch off some of the top layer, along with other texturing techniques. The contrast of using opaque neutrals makes the vibrant colors pop. This painting reminds me of a painting I did recently named Divine Spark (see under acrylics tab, Nina Bliese Gallery). I wanted to capture the same feel. I like the image of wild grasses out on the prairie, as the sun sets. I feel a soft breeze as it stirs the grass...it moves like ocean waves. That golden hour always enhances life somehow.
